Knowledge. Experience. Drive.

Luka Rados is an experienced criminal lawyer based in downtown Toronto. His practice involves representing clients in extremely serious and complex cases. For this reason, Luka understands the importance of a fearless, thoughtful and clear defence. It is essential for obtaining the best possible results.

Luka’s successes range from negotiating the withdrawal of significant charges to securing not-guilty verdicts after highly contested jury trials. He is also adept in challenging search warrants and in exposing breaches of his clients’ constitutional rights. Luka has handled matters relating to homicide, terrorism, cybercrime, gun violence, white-collar crime, drug trafficking, organized crime, sexual assault, domestic assault, robbery, human trafficking and many other offences. Several of his cases were high profile events that required careful navigation through public scrutiny and media coverage. As part of his results-oriented approach, Luka is committed to his clients both inside and outside of the courtroom.

Luka’s practice also extends to dealing with novel legal situations. This includes consulting on alleged computer crimes, many of which arise from the tension between new technologies and old laws. He has represented clients in relation to limitations of free speech on social media, the transfer of cryptocurrencies through SIM swapping, and the legality of computer programs that obfuscate digital transactions. He has defended against every kind of cyber offence that exists in Canada’s Criminal Code, including those that had not previously been tried.

Luka completed his legal studies at Queen’s University Faculty of Law, one of the country’s top law schools. As part of his time at Queen’s University, Luka worked extensively with the Correctional Law Project. There he successfully represented prisoners at Kingston Penitentiary and other federal institutions. He developed keen insights into the failings of the criminal justice system and the critical importance of sincere and effective advocacy.

Following this, Luka articled at one of Toronto’s finest defence firms before joining David G. Bayliss Professional Corporation as an associate. After a decade with that firm, Luka started his own criminal practice. He also became part of the Extremely Serious Matters (ESM) panel with Legal Aid Ontario. He now leads Luka Rados Professional Corporation which works in association with David G. Bayliss.
